I'm a Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) member and attended my first conference this year.
I learned a lot at the conference and met fellow children's writer L.R. Pinto.
She published a magical and adventurous children's book called Amanda Apple, and it's available through Amazon. If you're not following her on twitter, you should be!
It was definitely a fun learning experience for me, and hopefully not my last seminar.
This is late, but I'm posting it anyway. I was having problems getting the pictures from my camera
The Travel and Adventure Show came to town in Long Beach, and I decided to take the family for a day of 'adventure'
It was a Fun and great day seeing all the destinations and possibilities for future vacation spots. There was something for everyone, including taste testing, shows, rock climbing and segways..or as my daughter and her friend call them- Sagways, ...Oh, and giant hamster balls too. Also, I grabbed some pretty cool freebies while there and NOW I WANT TO TRAVEL THE WORLD!
Meeting Travel Channel's Samantha Brown was the highlight of my day! She's so awesome and I loved seeing her in person. She was friendly and greeted everyone with a warm smile, and gave really great travel tips that I will use when I go to my favorite destinations!!
If you're not following Samantha Brown on Twitter, I suggest you do. She gives great tips on travel, and her adventures are always entertaining.
Over Valentine's Day weekend, I went out to visit Adams Falconry in San Juan Capistrano.
Let me just say that it was one of the best weekends ever! When I was young, I watched the movie Lady Hawk, and feel in love with Hawks and Wolves.
I mean, to be up close to these beautiful birds is really exciting.
Adams Falconry specializes in training their Falcons and a Hawk to help rid golf courses, beaches, and landfills from pests and rodents. Owner Adam Chavez and his team are helping with their services and the help of the Falcons to control our beaches from the over populating seagulls. Seagulls are cute, have you ever been laying out and have a flock attack a chip near you? Did you know seagulls carry diseases? Thanks to the brave Falcons, they help control this problem.
Here's a quick video. * Don't Blink or you'll Miss it*
I am still working on Island of the Dolls, and have been doing some revisions on it. I am now working along side with Kate Foster as my editor to help me prepare Dolls to get it ready to start re-submititng to agents. I'm very excited to work with her and know that I will lear a great deal from her. Kate is the author of Winell Road.
This is me right now, waiting to hear back from Kate
If anyone is looking to work with an editor, I highly recommend you check out Kate Foster's services. She's a freelance editor and can help you.
Bottom line, never give up and keep trying. Write it down on paper, revise it, edit it, edit it again and keep going. I will keep you all posted on my progression on DOLLS
I am very excited to share that I wrote an article that was recently published in SUPConnect's online magazine.
SUPConnect is a Stand Up Paddleboard magazine with everything SUP related. I may be a beginner paddle boarder, but I love every minute of it. To be able to glide on the surface of the water and enjoy the open water is awesome! Not to mention a great workout!
My Opinion piece showcases owner and founder of Jarvis Boards, Tony Smith. His wood paddleboards are unique and all made in Austin Texas. Follow them on Instagram to see his handcrafted boards. You can also learn more about Tony Smith and Jarvis Boards here.
I invite you to click on the link below to read my article:
I am already on the works for my next article to submit to SUPConnect, so keep an eye out!
Not long ago I saw something posted on Instagram that I just loved! If you're on Instagram and not following @travellercollection you should be. They post awesome pictures from around the world on their Instagram. This is where my eyes
feel upon this:
I mean.. How Gorgeous is this??! I bought it for my sister because she's been traveling and starting a Travel Blog soon. I thought..what a great gift this will be. So far, she has 3 discs— PR for Puerto Rico, MX for Mexico and of course the U.S.
They sell the discs for only $2.00 by Country. But what I really like about this, is that for each disc sold.. Traveller Collective will contribute to the water campaign, and help give a clean sustainable water source to those in need. Do I feel good about my purchase? HECK YEAH!
But between us, I'm kinda glad they don't sell the discs by States.. only because my sister has been traveling around the U.S. and that means I would've had to buy more than a few discs... but ssshhh—that stays between us :)
Actually, I may just purchase one for myself soon!
Traveller Collective now has State Spacers available for purchase. Get your Country and State spacers in remembrance of your Travels, but it also make a great gift idea for anyone who travels.
Keep in mind, that when you make a purchase from the Traveller Collective—you're also helping supply water and give education to those in need.
Wow! I can not believe how fast 2015 went by.
I am surely welcoming 2016 with open arms!
I took a small break from writing, but I'm back to it and have been busy editing my Island of the Dolls. In the next few months, I will be working with Editor Kate Foster on my MS to improve it. I'm really excited and ready to start! I've also been working on my second manuscript and will soon blog about it later this month.
I will be blogging a lot more this year and I'll be sharing my adventures and photographs.
Wow! I can not believe how fast the months are going! Pretty soon I'll be baking and getting ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas! Un real! I am currently working on two manuscripts and still querying out Island of the Dolls. Getting rejections are never pleasant, but I'm not going to stress and will not give up.
GIFs are fun! No, but really. With each rejection, I'm taking the input and feedback and using it as a learning tool. So I'm hoping an Agent will find a spark and connect with Island of the Dolls.
I love October!!!
Disney transforms the haunted mansion to the Nightmare Before Christmas, Knott's has Knott's Scary Farm, and Universal has (Walking Dead) Horror Nights! This is also the month where I buy and carve pumpkins, sure to use for our decorations, but also to toast PUMPKIN SEEDS!
I'll also be going kayaking later this month. I'm super excited about that! I'll have my handy dandy GoPro strapped on me, and hopefully this time.....I wont tip over!
I usually dress up for Halloween, but I'm not sure what to be this year.. Any suggestions? I was a zombie few years ago, then a Joker... What to be? What to be? I will also be attending Stan Lee's Comikaze as usual! Can't wait!! If you haven't been or never heard of it....Check it out here!
Welcome to my first blog.
I am super excited to be launching my website. I've been hard at work creating and writing.
I am a Freelance Children's writer and I'm excited to share that I'm currently querying out my manuscript, Island of the Dolls. The idea for Island came from seeing a picture that a friend, Grace, posted on her Facebook wall. She went to Mexico and took a tour around the canal in Xochimilco, Mexico. I then sent my sister and cousin to go visit the island to take pictures of the........Dolls.
It has been about a year now that I started working of Island of the Dolls. I can say that the journey has been a great learning experience and I am enjoying every moment. I will tell you this: If writing is something that interests you.. Do It. Don't let ANYONE tell you other wise.
This is one thing that I've learned: Keep writing--you can always go back and edit and/or revise later.
The Twitter community is awesome and you will meet a lot of talented writers.
